============================
Driver-Specific Limitations
============================

* Restrictions on Package-Aware Support Driver
  - The driver is not a Microsoft WHQL Certified Driver.
  For the above case in a Server-Client environment, when the printer driver
  is added or upgraded on the Server side, a dialog prompting user to install
  the printer driver or the User Account Control dialog may be displayed
  on the Client side.

* About [Prioritize Application Specified Color when Output Color is Black & White]
  For print output that is consistent with color settings specified by application UI, set both
  [Print Using Application Specified Color] and [Prioritize Application Specified Color
  when Output Color is Black & White] to [On].

  The following describes the relationship between printer driver settings ([Output Color],
  [Print Using Application Specified Color], and [Prioritize Application Specified
  Color when Output Color is Black & White]) and print output.

  * [Print Using Application Specified Color]: [Off]
    Output Color specified by the application will be ignored, and driver UI's [Output Color]
    setting will be used for printing.

  * [Print Using Application Specified Color]: [On]
    - [Prioritize Application Specified Color when Output Color is Black & White]: [On]
      Output Color specified by the application will be used for printing.
      If no Output Color has been specified by the application, driver UI's [Output Color] setting
      will be used for printing.

    - [Prioritize Application Specified Color when Output Color is Black & White]: [Off]
      If driver UI's [Output Color] setting is [Color], Output Color specified by the application will
      be used for printing.
      If driver UI's [Output Color] setting is [Black and White], Output Color specified by the
      application will be ignored, and print output will be in black and white.
      If no Output Color has been specified by the application, driver UI's [Output Color] setting
      will be used for printing.

* Printer driver resolution
  The default value of the resolution of this driver is set to 600dpi
  (automatic on display). Depending on the specification and limitations of the
  application, the following variations in print result may occur when you
  output from a driver set to a resolution that is different from this driver.
  - The print layout of the document is changed.
  - The print result of lines and patterns is different.
  - Unnecessary lines are drawn in the print result.
  - Necessary lines are not drawn in the print result.
  When this happens, the print result may be improved by changing the
  [Resolution] setting on the [Advanced] tab.

* Installing network printer
  When installing network printer by [Run as Administrator], the printer may be
  added under the administrator account used for installation and not under the
  current user.

* Driver installation by remote access
  In the case of driver installation by remote access, the process may not end
  normally.

* Notice to the users in the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 cluster environment
  - When you specify Custom Paper Size in the cluster environment, make same
    setting at all of the physical node in the environment.

  - When clicking the [Get Information from Printer] button, if the [Search
    Printer] dialog is displayed, select [Specify Address] and enter the
    network address of the printer.

  - Driver Installation in the cluster environment
    (A) Microsoft Windows Server 2008
        Install the driver on each standby node and active node from Adding
        Printers, and then install it on the virtual server.

    You cannot use the driver installation tool when installing the driver
    to each node.

  - Driver Deletion in the cluster environment
    (A) Microsoft Windows Server 2008
        (a-1) Delete the printer with The Failover Cluster Management.
        (a-2) Delete the driver with The Failover Cluster Management.
        (a-3) Delete the printer icon on active node.
        (a-4) Delete the driver and package from the print server properties
               on active node.
        (a-5) Change standby node to active node.
        (a-6) Add a printer with The Failover Cluster Management.
        (a-7) Delete the printer with The Failover Cluster Management.
        (a-8) Delete the driver with The Failover Cluster Management.
        (a-9) Delete the printer icon on active node.
        (a-10) Delete the driver and package from the print server properties
               on active node.

* Notes and limitations about the server-client environment
- Server-Client Environment Issue (1)
  If the printer is being used as a shared printer and the server's operating
  system is being upgraded, a message indicating that the driver has to be
  updated may appear on the client, causing printing to fail.
  In this case, the print driver has to be reinstall on the client to be able
  to print again.

- Server-Client Environment Issue (2)
  In the Server-Client environment, after a print driver is added or upgraded
  on the Server side, printing may not be performed with a displayed message
  requiring print driver upgrade on the Client side.
  This problem can be avoided by the settings below.

  < Change of Group Policy Settings on Client PC >
  1. Log on as an Administrator on Client PC.
  2. Open command prompt and execute "gpedit.msc". to open [Local Group Policy
     Editor].
  3. Open the tree on the left side in the following order.
     [User Configuration]
     [Administrative Templates]
     [Control Panel]
     [Printers]
  4. Double-click [Point and Print Restrictions] in the right pane.
  5. Click the [Disabled] radio button.
  6. Click [OK] to close the window.
  7. Close [Local Group Policy Editor].

* About the [Cancel] button of [Enter User Details] dialog
  When printing after [Prompt User for Entry when Submitting Job] is set in
  [Detailed User Settings] dialog and the [Enter User Details] dialog is
  cancelled, a warning dialog is displayed.
  It may indicate a printer error message, although there is no error in the
  printer.
  In this case, ignore the warning message and continue operation.

* Number of Copies
  This driver allows you to print from 1 to 9999 copies. Only one copy will be
  printed if the number of copies specified exceeds this range.

* Features of printing with Annotation and Watermark
  When performing watermark printing with [Transparent] specified, some of the
  colors that appear on the screen may be different when actually printed.

  On Windows 8.1 or later versions, Annotation and Watermark may not be printed
  even if [Annotation] and [Watermark] are specified.
  To make them function, set [EMF Spooling] to [Enabled] on the [Advanced] tab.

* Printing Huge Print Data
  For some applications, if a pasted image is printed at high resolution, the
  print data expands and may result in an extremely slow printing speed.
  The print data size of the output may be improved by changing the following
  settings of [Image Options] on the [Advanced] tab.
  - Change [Resolution].
  - Change [Image Compression].

* Black/Color Auto Recognition
  When [Color] is specified at [Output Color], though the output may appear to
  be in black, it has been processed in color.
  If you are sure that you want to print in black, specify [Black] at [Output
  Color]. Documents will be printed in color in the following situations.
  - When black and white objects are overlapping the color objects
  - When there are color objects outside the print area
  - When the application uses the system's ICM function to perform color change
  - When the application has its own color change function

* Skip Blank Pages
  Even with [Skip Blank Pages] selected, blank pages may still be printed in
  the following situations.
  - The page contains only line feeds.
  - The page contains only spaces.
  - The page contains only line feeds and spaces.
  - A white background drawing instruction is sent from the application.

* Blank Separators
  If you set [EMF Spooling] to [Enabled] or specify Header, Footer and Watermark,
  and perform [2-Sided Print] with documents of odd number of pages, a blank page
  may be inserted on the last page depending on application or OS.

* Font Substitution
  If a size equal or larger than 36 points is specified, the document may be
  printed with incorrect font substitution.

* Missing Items in the Printout
  In some applications, images may be missing in the printout.
  If this happens, activating EMF spooling as shown below may remove the
  problem.
  - Set [EMF Spooling] to [On] on the [Detailed Settings] tab.

* Custom Paper Size
  Administrator rights are necessary for changing the setting of Custom Paper
  Size.
  When using Windows Server 2008, please modify printer properties according to
  the following steps.
  - Select the printer from the printer folder.
  - Right-click the printer, click [Run as administrator] and then select
    [Properties].
  - Click the [Continue] button in the [User Account Control] dialog box, and
    from the displayed properties, configure the settings.

  For Windows 7 or later versions select the printer from the [Devices and
  Printers] folder, and select [Properties].
  On the [Sharing] tab, click the [Change Sharing Options] button.
  After that, specify custom page size.

* Printer Error
  An error may occur at the printer if one of the following situations occurs
  during printing. Follow the instructions on the printer UI or the user guide
  to resolve the error.
  - Driver properties from the application program are not displayed.
  - Printer settings on the application program are not reflected in the driver
    properties when displayed.
  - Printer settings are changed midway in a document.
    (E.g. document which has different paper sizes for every page.)
  - Continuous printing from multiple application programs.
  - When an optional device that was not installed to the printer was specified
    at the [Installable Options] dialog.

* Compatibility with Printer Font
  If a document using the printer fonts of other machine models is printed
  through this driver, then the results of printing will be different.

* Print Overlay
  The alphabetical [Form Name] specified in the [Print Overlay] is
  case sensitive.
  Specify the correct case sensitive form name registered in the printer.

  As some applications paint the background in white to print, forms with
  overlay may be hidden. Such applications include Internet Explorer and
  WordPad.

* About searching for a printer by [Community Name]
  With the default setting of firewall you can't search for a printer across
  subnets by Broadcast.
  In this case, please specify the address directly by selecting Specify Address.

* Printing on Long Paper
  When printing from some application software such as PowerPoint with the
  setting of [Long Paper A] or [Long Paper B] for [Paper Size], it may not be
  performed properly.
  In this case, specify [Long Paper A] or [Long Paper B] in [Custom Paper Size],
  and do not make a setting in [Paper Size].

===================
Client Environment
===================

* Multi-language Document
  If a multi-language document is created using the multi-language support
  function, you should select [Always Use TrueType Fonts] on the [Fonts] dialog
  box before printing. When printing with printer fonts, non-Japanese texts
  such as Greek, Croatian, etc. may be printed incorrectly.

=================================
Application-Specific Limitations
=================================

* All Applications
  - Depending on the application used by the customer, blank pages for page
    adjustment will be inserted automatically according to the conditions like
    the number of copies specified when outputting 2-sided prints.
    In this case, the blank inserts will be included by the application.
    The performance is improved by changing the setting below.
    - Set [Skip Blank Pages] on [Advanced] tab to [On].
  - The print layout may be changed when you change the [Resolution] of this
    driver.
  - In some applications, when the line width is set to thin lines, the
    selected dotted lines may be printed as solid lines instead. If this
    happens, select another line width.
  - When printing documents with image data such as photos, the processing time
    may increase. In such case, the processing time can be reduced by setting
    the [Image Compression] option of [Image Options] on the [Advanced] tab to
    [Photo].
  - When garbage text is printed, select [Always Use TrueType Fonts] from the
    [Fonts] tab when printing.
  - When text is not printed clearly, it can be improved by changing the
    following setting.
    - Change the [Image Quality] from the [Image Options] tab.
  - When the output image of patterns or graphics is different from what you
    see on the screen, the discrepancy may be dissolved by setting the items in
    the [Image Options] tree on the [Advanced] tab as below.
    - Set [High Speed Image Processing] to [Off].
    - Set [Gray Guaranteed True Gray Graphics] to [Off].
    - Set [Draw the Pattern with the Resolution] to [On].
    - Change [Resolution].
    - Change [Halftone Print].
    Changing the following settings on the [Graphics] tab may also make an
    improvement.
    - Change the [Image Quality].
    - Change the [Color Adjustment].
    - Change the [Lightness] and [Contrast], [Saturation] at the [Image
      Settings] tab of the [Graphics Properties] dialog box.
  - The print result may overlap if Multiple Up is selected when printing a
    document that has exceeded the print area of the driver.
  - If the Long Paper document is not printed as shown on the screen, it may be
    improved by setting the [Resolution] to [300dpi] or [200dpi].
  - Setting the following will improve the phenomena if the paper settings from
    the application are incorrect.
    - Modify the [Change Paper Information Handling] setting.

* Output Color Settings from Application
  To print in color from Application of Windows Store, open [Devices and Printers]
  from Windows Desktop, right-click on your printer to select [Printing Preferences]
  and then confirm that [Output Color] on the [Basic] tab of the [Printing Preferences]
  dialog is set to [Color].
  If the setting of [Output Color] on the [Basic] tab of the [Printing Preferences]
  dialog remains [Black and White], the output will be in black and white even
  if you specify Color Mode to [Color] on the printing setting screen shown
  after you select printer from the device charm.

* Adobe Acrobat
* Adobe Reader
  Changing the following settings may improve the printing result if the
  printed output is different from what you see on the screen.
  - Check the [Print As Image] at the print dialog box of the application
    before printing.

  When printing a PDF file containing mixed sizes such as A4 portrait and A3
  landscape or A5 portrait and A4 landscape, the driver is unable to separate
  and print pages of different sizes onto different paper in a single operation.
  To print on different paper sizes, separate the pages of different sizes into
  different print operations.
  To fit a mixed-size print output to a single paper size in a single print
  operation, select [Reduce] on the [Print] dialog box.
  For example, you can rotate and reduce an A3 landscape page to be printed on
  an A4 portrait paper.

  [Image Rotation 180 Degrees] setting will not be reflected on the output
  result.

* CorelDRAW
  If a printed pattern or diagram is different from what you see on the screen,
  you can improve the result by the following settings.
  - Change [Image Quality] in the [Image Options] tab.
  - Change the following settings in [Image Options] in the [Advanced] tab.
    - Set [Halftone Print] to [On].
    - Set [Paint Only Enclosed Areas] to [On].

* Corel Designer
  Objects that are drawn in solid lines may be printed in dotted lines.
  The print output may not look good, for example, lines and gaps may be seen
  in circle gradations.
  The print output may be improved by converting the gradations to images.

* JustSystems Ichitaro
  Sometimes the partial printing may not be performed properly. Such cases can
  be avoided by the following method.
  - Before starting the application, open the default setting of the document
    from the Printer Folder and click [OK].

* Microsoft Excel
  When printing a book or multiple sheets in Excel, the second and subsequent
  sheets may not be printed as specified in the dialog settings.
  When you specify to print an entire book with mixed double-sided and
  single-sided sheets, each sheet is printed according to its individual print
  information. Batch printing is not performed. You can avoid this problem by
  doing the following:
  1. Select another printer on the print dialog or page setup dialog of any
     sheet and close the document temporarily to activate the change.
  2. Change the default value of the driver to the desired setting.
     (E.g. 2 Sided Print, 2 Up, etc.)
  3. Open the document and select this driver on the print dialog before
     printing.

  The print layout may be changed when you change the [Resolution] of this
  driver.

  You may not be able to print if you change the port after installing this
  driver. In this case, delete the driver.Specify the desired port and install
  again.

* Microsoft Internet Explorer
  When the output of the image data is different from what you see on the
  screen, use the following method to resolve.
  - Change the [Resolution] setting of [Image Options] tree on the [Advanced]
    tab.

  If a Web page containing Excel document is printed in multiple parts, you can
  rectify the problem using the following methods.
  1. Quit Internet Explorer.
  2. Open printer properties in the Printers folder.
  3. Switch [Apply Zoom to Application] to [Off] in the [Paper/Output] tree on
     the [Advanced] tab.

  Since File creation at printing is restricted on Internet Explorer in
  Protection mode Form file can not be created even if [Create Background Forms]
  is specified.

  When outputting from Internet Explorer in Protection mode changes made in the
  pop-up [Enter User Details] dialog are not taken over to the output next time.

  The following functions are restricted with use of Internet Explorer in
  Protected Mode.
  - The setting items for [Job Type] ([Secure Print] / [Sample Set] /
    [Delayed Print]) can not be edited.
  - The functions of [Saved Settings], [Save] and [Edit] are disabled.
  - The functions of [Watermark], [New], [Edit] and [Delete] are disabled.
  - The setting of [Notify Job Completion by E-mail] can not be changed.
  To change the settings of these functions, open the default setting of the
  document from the Printer Folder.

* Microsoft Outlook
  When printing Schedule, the parts to be printed in color may appear printed
  in black and white with color missing.
  If color toner is used to make it look like gray-colored, the meter will
  count the job as a color printing.

  In such cases, the problem may be avoided with the following method.
  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Right-click the printer icon in [Devices and Printers], and open [Printing
     preferences].
  3. Click the [OK] button to close [Printing preferences].

  In the case of using shared printer icon, a new user of the shared printer
  may avoid the problem with the following method. (Only administrator is
  allowed to do.)
  1. Right-click the printer icon in [Devices and Printers] and open [Printer
     properties].
  2. Go to the [Advanced] tab and open [Printing Defaults].
  3. Click the [OK] button to close [Printing Defaults].
  4. Close [Printer properties].

* Microsoft PowerPoint
  Depending on the font (e.g. MS-Mincho) and point size specified for a piece
  of text, the underscore (_) and the underline may overlap in the print output.
  Even if the overlap is not apparent because of the screen display ratio, the
  underscore (_) and the underline may overlap on the print output.

  When the output in black is different from what you see on the screen, use
  the following method to resolve.
  - Check the [Grayscale] on the Print dialog of the application and print.

* Microsoft Visio
  Setting the following will improve the problem of printing subsets of various
  sizes in which is different from the specified [Paper Size] in [Basic] tab.
  - Set [Change Paper Information Handling] to [On] on the [Detailed Settings]
    tab.

* Microsoft Word
  Even if [Skip Blank Pages] is specified, when a blank page is included in
  documents, it may be output.

  When [Poster] is selected to print two or more copies of a single-page
  document, the copies will not be collated.

  You may not be able to print if you change the port after installing
  this driver. In this case, delete the driver.
  Specify the desired port and install again.

* Fuji Xerox DocuWorks
  When printing a mixed size document, the printer may not be able to switch
  between different output paper sizes. Such cases can be avoided by the
  following method.
  - Display the [Printer Settings] dialog box using the [File] >
    [Printer Settings] menu.
  - Specify [Auto] from [Paper Source].
